Bruno Monfort, « Tempo(e)ralité » et connaissance : dire « now » et esquiver le présent  dans « A Descent into the Maelström »:
 
Il y sera question de l’utilisation paradoxale que le récit de Poe fait de « now » quand au fil d’un récit parfois embrouillé émerge le phénomène déconcertant d’un présent rétrograde qui semble rejoindre le passé dans son antériorité. S’exonérant de la linéarité du temps décompté par les horloges, le récit de Poe fabrique alors des modalités particulières d’expérience du temps dans laquelle les capacités épistémologiques naissent d’un autre paradoxe, celui des contraintes de la contingence.
 
 
Bruno Monfort is a professor at the Université Paris Nanterre and a LARCA associated member. He works on 19th century American literature, on which he has published numerous books.
