Smithsonian Event: “On French Soil: France Commemorates the Service of African American Soldiers”
On December 3, 2021, André Rakoto will give a presentation on the welcoming of African-American soldiers in France in 1917. The event is organized by the Smithsonian and will take place online at 12pm (7pm EST). The conference will include presentations by John Morrow and Laurence Cossu-Beaumont.
André Rakoto is Director at the Veterans and War Victims Office, Paris Bureau. He is working on a doctoral thesis entitled Les Etats-Unis, une Démocratie en Armes : Construction du fait militaire, mémoire et histoire publique, stratégie internationale.
