Melville’s Energies Paris: 13th International Melville Society Conference #Melville

Publié le 12 juin 2022

Originally planned in June 2021, but postponed for reasons we all know too well, the Thirteenth International Melville Society Conference will take place in Paris from June 27 to June 30, 2022. The conference will explore Melville’s life, work, and legacies through a series of papers and conversations devoted to the theme of “Melville’s Energies” broadly conceived. See the conference Call for Papers for details.

The conference will feature four days of panels, roundtables, plenary talks, and special events.

It will take place at several venues: Sorbonne Université and Université Sorbonne Nouvelle on days 1 and 4, situated in the Quartier Latin, which Melville explored during his 1849 trip to Paris; Université de Paris on days 2 and 3. See Conference Sites and How to Get There.

The conference will feature plenary addresses by Jennifer Greiman, Associate Professor of English at Wake Forest University, and Jeffrey Insko, Professor of English at Oakland University.

“Melville’s Energies” is sponsored by LARCA UMR 8825 (Université de Paris, CNRS), PRISMES (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle), VALE (Sorbonne Université), CECILLE (Université de Lille), and the Melville Society. We are also grateful to Matt Kish for giving us permission to use his art for the conference’s website and posters.
