David Wills, Professor of Comparative Literature and French Studies at Brown University, has been invited by the LARCA to present his latest book, Killing Times: The Temporal Technology of the Death Penalty (Fordham UP, 2019), on Monday, October 21, at 5pm.

This book concentrates “on how the attempt by capital punishment to determine and manage the timing and instant of death leads to surprising paradoxes. The treatment of the death penalty as temporal technology brings into focus the impasse of US Supreme Court arguments regarding cruel and unusual punishment, and brings into the ambit of capital punishment extrajudicial execution by drone, and suicide bombing.”

David Wills is also a noted translator and interpreter of the work of Jacques Derrida.

You are cordially invited to his talk and the drinks to be served afterwards.

Practical information: 5pm-7pm @ Université Paris Diderot, bâtiment Olympe de Gouges, room126.
